Dulux Select Decorators - Skills Spotlight

All you need to achieve the project of your dreams are two things. A Dulux Select Decorator, and a little inspiration.

To prove it, we’re shining a light on three amazing Dulux Select Decorator projects, to inspire your home transformations.

LPC Painting’s Regency Interior

Faced with four large rooms, high ceilings, tall sash windows with shutters, and even painted floors, Les at LPC Painting Ltd based in Cheltenham. had a challenge on his hands.

He’d have to create an amazing period-appropriate look and feel, all while keeping his client happy and working around other tradespeople.

And Les’ skills were put to the test by a previous owner’s DIY attempts, which meant even starting the job would need some careful work and attention:

When quoting for the job I had made the customer aware that the listed large sash windows and shutters had been painted in textured masonry paint, believe it or not, by the previous home owner - these, along with the rest of the woodwork needed a lot of attention and preparation to bring them back to a high standard prior to painting them.”

With careful use of a dustless sander to remove the textured paint, an airless sprayer to bring the ornate ceiling to life, and a tin or two of Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt in Heritage Oxford Blue, Les created an amazing room that might just inspire you to choose period styling for your home.

Bates & Misons’ Bucket List Hallway

Every decorator loves a challenge, and Rachel Bates of Bates & Misons in Chard had been waiting her whole career for a real “bucket list” job that’d let her show off all of her skills.

A very small space, an unbelievably complex illustrated wallpaper pattern and no margin for error would be hard enough for any decorator. But add in fuse boxes, an archway, plus a number of other features to work around, and Rachel had her work cut out!

Rachel needed to ensure the wallpaper pattern lined up and matched throughout the hallway, keeping it centred in the homeowner’s eye line so they see the main features as they walk down the staircase. And to pile on the stress, the client didn’t have the budget for any extra rolls. No pressure!

Using the job as an opportunity to showcase her skills with careful lining, pattern matching and seamless joins, Rachel created an inspirational room that shows just what a Dulux Select Decorator can do.

Davidson Decorators’ Pristine Exterior

Changing rooms is one thing, but changing a house’s exterior, that’s a big project.

But as Aaron Davidson of Davidson Decorators in Southport proved by totally revitalising the tired woodwork of an otherwise marvellous looking two storey home, it’s easy to do with a Dulux Select Decorator. The property’s brickwork and windows were handsome enough, but over time the woodwork had begun to deteriorate, and the stonework wasn’t in much better shape either.

But an inspirational decorator can do far more than just paint, so Aaron set to work.

Lots of the stone work and woodwork was in very bad shape in a lot of areas. I had to replace some wood with hardwood, and repair and reshape the stonework before replacing some damaged guttering.
After that, the job was simple. The woodwork had six coats in total to give ultimate protection as I live in a seaside town and everything is open to the elements.”

The end result? A superb looking exterior that should show you that your interior design dreams might need to step out into the fresh air every once in a while. Because while changing rooms can breathe new life into your home, some expert decorating outside can have a huge impact too.

That’s the inspiration sorted. Now about that decorator…
